Charles Dickens festivals

Rochester plays host to the annual Dickens Festival and Dickensian Christmas celebration.  The Dickens Festival has been running since 1978 and attracts thousands of visitors to the town that inspired much of Dickens’s work.  With parades, street theatre, music and dance, the festival recreates a Victorian atmosphere and runs over 3 days each summer.  The Dickensian Christmas is held on the first weekend of December and incorporates readings, song, dance, street entertainment and fake snowfall to recreate a Victorian Christmas.
